Gerontology Diploma - CWRG

About the Training

A 23-week free training program organized by Western Community College, funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada-British Columbia Workforce Development Agreement. This free diploma program provides students with the background and experience to enter the gerontological field of practice. This program is designed for students who are interested in becoming health care support workers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.


Starting Date: 31st January, 2022

Eligibility Criteria

Unemployed or underemployed individuals including those from equity groups (immigrants, youth, women, PWDs, older workers)

•At Least 16 years of age

• Resident of BC, Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected person with authorization to work


Course Outline

•1 week of essential skills training

•1 week of workplace safety training

•16 weeks of academic training

•4 weeks of practicum placement as well as 1 week of job support

•Gerontology Diploma from Western Community College

•Pandemic Awareness & PPE

•Food Safe & WHMIS

•Standard First Aid & CPR C

•Privacy training & Medication Management
