Health Care Assistant

Program Description

The Health Care Assistant Program prepares graduates for positions working in the health care setting for profit and non-profit organizations. Providing a high level of frontline care to clients in need of assistance. The program is starting on October 25.


The program includes:

• 34-week diploma program,

•8 weeks of practicum,

•3 weeks of Essential skills training and employability support workshops

• Completion of Student Practice Education Core Orientation modules (BC Care Aid registry approved)

• Completion of First Aid and CPR ‘C’ Certification

• Completion of Food Safe

• Completion of Workplace Violence Prevention Modules


Program Admission Requirements:

•BC secondary school graduation or equivalent, or Mature Student Status 19 years of age

•Be able to study Online/Blended Learning for Theory Parts Only: In order to complete the theory portion of the program, weekdays, 9 AM – 2 PM

•Students must have: Laptop, Internet connection (Ethernet/WiFi), Microphone, headset & webcam

•Criminal record check (in accordance with the Criminal Records Review Act)


Program Eligibility Criteria:

•Participants must reside in BC and be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons

•Participants must have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and:

•Unemployed, employed (part-time, seasonal, or casual- 30 hours or less only), or precariously employed and seeking training to find a new job

•Participants currently receiving regular Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, and those on Income Assistance (IA), are eligible to participate in a CWRG-funded training project

•Participants must fulfill the English language proficiency requirements


Eligible clients will have the following learning outcomes:

•Completion of Student Practice Education Core Orientation modules (BC Care Aid registry approved)

•Completion of First Aid and CPR ‘C’ Certification

•Completion of Food Safe Level 1

•Completion of Workplace Violence Prevention Modules


Upon completion of the program, graduates can work as below occupations list:

•Adult Day Care
