Fully Government funded Trades Starter Training Program aims to address the under- representation of certain demographics in SkilledTradesBC-recognized trades by providing comprehensive pre-apprenticeship training and skill development. The program targets individuals who face barriers to entering the workforce, offering them opportunities to obtain sustainable employment, skilled trades positions, or apprenticeships within their communities or across the province.
Cohort 8: Transportation Trades Sampler Short Certificate
Start Date: May 25, 2026 - End Date: September 11, 2026
Program Duration: 16 Weeks
Delivery Mode: Hybrid (In-Person & Online)
In-Person Technical Training
VCC Vancouver Community College– Broadway Campus
8 weeks of in-person training - Monday to Friday- From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Online Employability Skills Training
Delivered by PICS Society
8 weeks online training- Monday to Friday- From 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Introduction to Automotive Service
Automotive Collision& Refinishing
Heavy-Duty Equipment
Living in BC
PR OR Canadian Citizen OR Protected person with Notice of Decision
Unemployed OR precariously employed
Eligible if you are any one of the following demographics of Equity Deserving group and self-Identify as:
Women /2SLGBTQIA+/Immigrants/Black Canadians/Racialized Persons/Youth Adult at risk OR Indigenous people
Not receiving duplicative financial supports from another provincially or federally funded labour market program
Not be a full-time student in high school or post secondary education or training
Fully funded training
One-on-one employment counselling and coaching services
Job search skills training and directed work search support
Assistance with re-entry into the workforce
Specific skills training tailored to targeted jobs
Insight into current labor market trends and work environments
Increased employability skills
Improved soft skills for workplace sustainability
Hands-on experience through work placements
Enhanced understanding of labor market trends
