Trade Starters for Equity Deserving Groups Training Project

Fully Government funded Trades Starter Training Program aims to address the under- representation of certain demographics in SkilledTradesBC-recognized trades by providing comprehensive pre-apprenticeship training and skill development. The program targets individuals who face barriers to entering the workforce, offering them opportunities to obtain sustainable employment, skilled trades positions, or apprenticeships within their communities or across the province.

Streams and Cohorts

Cohort 8: Transportation Trades Sampler Short Certificate

Start Date: May 25, 2026 - End Date: September 11, 2026
Program Duration: 16 Weeks
Delivery Mode: Hybrid (In-Person & Online)

In-Person Technical Training
VCC Vancouver Community College– Broadway Campus
8 weeks of in-person training - Monday to Friday- From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Online Employability Skills Training
Delivered by PICS Society
8 weeks online training- Monday to Friday- From 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM 

Topics covered in the training

  • Introduction to Automotive Service

  • Automotive Collision& Refinishing

  • Heavy-Duty Equipment

Admissions Requirements:

  • Living in BC

  • PR OR Canadian Citizen OR Protected person with Notice of Decision 

  • Unemployed OR precariously employed

  • Eligible if you are any one of the following demographics of Equity Deserving group and self-Identify as:

    Women /2SLGBTQIA+/Immigrants/Black Canadians/Racialized Persons/Youth Adult at risk OR Indigenous people

  • Not receiving duplicative financial supports from another provincially or federally funded labour market program

  • Not be a full-time student in high school or post secondary education or training
